Aromas of lemon cake and macadamia nut deliver an inviting a sense of opulence. A round and weighty texture on the palate, abound with notes of rhubarb, dried orange and greengage. Further finesse shows through on the long finish, with hints of Himalayan pink salt and electric freshness, a subtle note of sweetness of Braeburn apple
Named the UK’s best Blanc de Noir in the 2022 WineGB Awards, this trophy winner is the from the 2014 vintage, a year which made the case for creating a Blanc de Noir from the excellent quality Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier from our Findon Park vineyard. The two red grape varieties were co-pressed and fermented in a mixture of five and six year old Burgundy oak barrels with selected yeasts. The barrels did not impart oak flavour due to their age, but promoted a gentle micro-oxygenation, which refines the mouthfeel and structure of the wine on the palate. Thanks to the ideal ripeness of the 2014 vintage, malolactic fermentation was blocked, leaving the wine with natural malic ‘energy’. This not only brought verve and focus to the blend, but also gives the wine fantastic ageing potential.
Wines have been grown on the soft chalk slopes of the South Downs around the Wiston Estate since Roman times, some 2,000 years ago. The current winery was inspired Pip Goring’s arrival at the estate in 1972 and her dream to plant a vineyard that would evoke memories of her childhood in South Africa’s Western Cape. With the support of family and the perseverance of her Huguenot ancestors, Pip’s dream became a reality. In 2006, the Goring family planted a south-facing 16-acre site with Pinot Noir, Pinot Meunier and Chardonnay vines. In the same year, Harry and Pip’s son Richard moved back to the Estate with his wife, Kirsty. Having worked on small scale organic farms in western Canada, they brought with them the desire to invest for the long term in the soil and the community. Pip’s dream, which was as much about bringing people together as it was about making wine, has now become a reality and fifteen years after the vineyards were first planted the Wiston Estate’s team of growers and winemakers, which has doubled in size, has become a dynamic focal point for its ever-growing community.
