This is a tightly layered wine: soft but ever-present tannins are long and they support deftly a stunning and complex facade of pure pinot primary flavours: from black berry fruits to cherry and wild strawberries, herbs, and lavender. The full drama of an acid afterglow takes over the back-palate, stretching out the herbal and savoury after-palate.
Strikingly black-red and violet. Grated dark chocolate and a dusting of cocoa; Christmas Cake or rather pudding. Red and dark berries at the late Summer end of the spectrum. It is the interplay between the dark fruit perfume (blackberries, blueberries and mulberries) and the heightened aromatics of plum, prune and fresh herbs that make the wine so enticing.
This Heirloom Vineyards Pinot Noir was produced from our best Adelaide Hills Vineyard in Kersbrook whose clones and viticulture embody the very best in cutting edge but old school viticulture and winemaking. Hand tended vines, sorted bunch-by-bunch, naturally open fermented, basket-pressed and stored in well seasoned first-use French oak barriques from bespoke coopers. This wine is 50% whole bunch and is aged in 2nd and 3rd use French oak barriques from bespoke coopers for 7 months.
Zar and Elena Brooks, of Dandelion Vineyards fame, founded Heirloom Vineyards in order to make wines from a selection of their best fruit. “Our aim,” says Zar, “is to preserve the best of tradition (the old world of wine and our unique old vineyards) and to champion the best clones of each variety planted in the most appropriate sites, embracing the principles of organic and biodynamic farming.”
