Made in a style reminiscent of the Hunter Semillons of yesteryear, the result is a more textured style of Semillon than usual. Pale in colour, it has a complex nose, with some citrus and a slight strawberry character that leads into an intense citrus core on the palate that is balanced by the wine’s textural elements, followed by the soft acid line that gives it great length.
This wine comes from Johnno’s vineyard, which is situated just below the winery. Planted in 1908, it features sandy soils and is planted alongside Mary Anne’s Creek, which runs all the way down to our iconic Short Flat vineyard.
The Tyrrell family’s association with the grape began with Edward Tyrrell in 1858. Today his legacy lives on through the fourth and fifth generation of the family who collectively manage one of Australia’s oldest and most highly regarded wineries. Tyrrell’s has grown over a century and a half to become one of Australia’s most prestigious winemakers.
