Rich and powerful in character, the 2016 vintage possesses a fantastic depth of black fruit embellished with notes of menthol, liquorice and graphite. The fruit concentration is balanced by firm, ripe tannins which makes it a more muscular but still very much accessible vintage.
The second wine of Château Léoville Poyferré, Pavillon, is sourced from the estate’s younger vines with an average age of 15 to 20 years. The wine benefits from the same scrupulous attention in the vineyard and the cellar, the sole difference is the maturation. Pavillon is aged in two-year-old French oak barrels to highlight the bright fruit character, meaning it is more accessible in its youth.
