This wine is bright yellow in colour with youthful hints. On the nose, it is vibrant and aromatic, with a fine spiciness, white flowers, and stony minerality . A full-bodied wine, the palate offers hints of beeswax and hay, well integrated oak and a long mineral finish.
The exclusive dry Grosses Gewächs `Schlossberg` Riesling is sourced from the eponymous vineyard classified as VDP. Grosse Lage (Grand Cru) and exclusively owned by Schloss Vollrads. The low yielding vines are between thirty and forty years old and are deeply rooted in a mixture of quartzite, argillaceous shale and gravel. The climate is mild, benefiting from the Rhine river on one side and the Taunus mountain range on the other side, offering protection from the northern winds and creating the ideal conditions for the vines. The vineyard slopes are all south-facing, allowing them to capture the best sunshine and resulting in dry premium wines with intensive dense body, fantastic structure and backbone.
Schloss Vollrads, with nearly 800 years of viticulture experience, is one of the oldest wine estates in the world. The vineyards are located in the heart of the Rheingau, where the quality of Riesling is unsurpassed by any other region in the world. In 1728, the world's first Kabinett was produced at Schloss Vollrads and, 300 years on, the estate is still going from strength to strength under the watchful eye of Rowald Hepp and his winemaker Ralph Herke. The estate now has 81 hectares of Riesling vineyards.
